Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:
Good Bass fishing overall as the lake continues its Fall transition. Topwater action improved as the fish and bait move shallower, with the mornings and afternoons still providing the most action. Smaller Flukes, Lucky Craft Sammy 100’s and small poppers will all get bit on secondary points and rocky areas close to the mouths of the bigger coves in both arms of the lake. The dropshot bite is still producing mostly smaller fish of both species with a few nicer ones mixed in. The bite is from five to twenty feet deep with the usual finesse worms doing the most damage. The water is a little murky after going down about seven feet so use some darker colors like oxblood or green pumpkin and try six inch worms instead of the usual four inch sizes.
Striped Bass:
Surface “boils” were relatively consistent this week with most of the schools still spread out in the Fish Arm. The boils aren’t lasting very long, twenty to thirty seconds at most and some boats are charging the schools making it difficult. Good topwater baits used this week were the Lucky Craft Sammy 100 in Ghost Minnow or Aurora Black, Ghost C3 Baits Flukensteins, white Riser Baits and Z Man HellRaizers in the bone or shad pattern.
Bluegill:
Bluegills continue to bite red worms and meal worms in the shallow ends of coves like Utopia and Old SS around submerged brushpiles and overhanging trees that provide shade. Keep the bobbers, hooks and worms on the small size.
