Castaic Lake Report 07-19-2026
Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:
The water is mostly clear and algae free and the ‘no water contact’ ban has been lifted. Suffice to say the ski boat crowd has shown up in force. The finesse plastics bites is still accounting for the majority of bites in twenty to thirty feet of water with the standard dropshot and Carolina rigs producing numbers and size. The most productive baits continue to be the C3 Baits/Bait Merchant Prototype 1 worms and Ice Picks in the Purple Haze and Neptune Shad color patterns. The Slim Pro’s in the Cinnamon color has been very productive wacky rigged on a dropshot rig. Main lake and secondary points seem to be holding the most fish, but the Shad are migrating into the coves leading to some topwater action in the morning and early evening hours.
Striped Bass
A few boils starting to show on smaller fish in the two to three pound range. Look for this bite to get better on a weekly basis if not daily.
