Castaic Lake Report 08-02-2026
Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:
The lake is going thru a short transition period from the long Spring and early Summer bite to the open water-baitfish chasing Summer/Fall period. The Bass have left most of the points and structure spots anglers have been fishing for months and have turned into open-water feeding machines, often grouping up in “wolfpacks” of five to ten fish. The dropshot, wacky worm and bottom contact bait presentations anglers have grown used to have dwindled for the most part unless you happen to be on your spot while the small schools are moving thru. The good news is that the topwater action is getting better every day, especially in the first and last two hours of the day. As the majority of the baitfish tend to be smaller early on, lures like the Megabass Karashis, 007 Jackall Riser Baits and C3 Baits Flukensteins seem to get bit more than the bigger choices. The coves in the East end of the Fish Arm are good places to start. There are also some one to four pound Stripers chasing the same bait schools, so it doesn’t hurt to have an Espetit or Lucky Craft Gunfish 95 at the ready.
Striped Bass
Surface boils are starting to show with more frequency on mostly smaller fish in the two to four pound range. This bite is getting better daily as the baitfish get bigger. The areas have been fairly random, and as usual the schools can pop up just about anywhere. The usual spots that produce every year seem to come into play early on, Center Point, the Eldeberry buoy line, Elizabeth Canyon and the mouths of the bigger coves have all seen boils recently. The cut Sardine bite at the Eldeberry buoy line is paying off for anglers with a lot of patience as they wait for the schools to move thru.
