Castaic Lake Report 09-06-2026
Largemouth Bass:
The majority of the Bass continue to chase Shad and Silverside Minnows in shallow areas of the main lake and towards the backs of the major coves. Most of the baitfish are in the three to four inch range. Almost all of the action is surface oriented with dropshot rigs and bottom contact baits producing very few bites. Lucky Craft Gunfish 115’s along with Espetit 70’s and 95’s are getting most of the attention as the smaller lures are still not as effective as in weeks past. C3 Baits Flukensteins have been very productive in the shallow grass for both Bass and Stripers. The bite is much better when the wind picks up from the South, usually around 10 a.m. The triple digit heat and cloudy skies that have been the norm gave way to cooler nights and temps in the high 80’s midweek, making for outstanding fishing and some much needed relief for Summertime anglers.
Striped Bass
Surface boils are not as big or widespread as in weeks past, probably due to the schools of Stripers and Largemouth chasing huge schools of baitfish into the shallows. The good news is that the Stripers will hit a surface lure on a blind cast in the shallower water. Espetit 95’s and Lucky Craft Gunfish 115’s are connecting with Stripers that are averaging four to seven pounds on the average. The Stripers and Largemouth are working the same areas, spreading the baitfish schools out. Cast at any surface splash and you might be surprised by a big Striper, I continued to see them as shallow as three feet chasing Shad over grass flats this past week.
