Castaic Lake Report 07-12-2026
Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:
The lake is still clearing following the algae treatment earlier in the month. The water is mostly algae free, especially in the Fish Arm of the lake. Although the bulk of the finesse plastics bites are still happening in twenty to thirty feet of water, there is an increase in activity in the five to ten foot range. Dropshot and Carolina rigs are producing numbers and size, with most action being had on C3 Baits/Bait Merchant Prototype 1 worms and Slim Pro’s on the dropshot rig. The Purple Haze pattern on the worms and the Cinnamon color for the Slim Pro’s have been most productive for me, especially in the areas with stained water. Main lake and secondary points seem to be holding the most fish for now, but the Shad are getting shallower by the day which should lead to some topwater action in the backs of the major coves in the coming days.
Striped Bass:
Not much change as the lake clears. A few blowups starting to materialize if you’re in the right place at the right time, but not much to target as of yet.
