Castaic Lake Report 06-28-2026

Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:

Overcast skies mid-week brought on a great bite for both species, with dropshot and Carolina rigs producing numbers and size. The lake is as full as it gets and the better bites are still happening deeper, in the twenty to thirty foot range. Hot baits for me continue to be the Castaic staples, Bait Merchant designed C3 Baits Prototype Worms in the Purple Haze color pattern and wacky rigged C3 Baits Slim Pros in the Cinnamon color, both on a dropshot rig. There is still only a smattering of topwater and reaction bait action as the Shad are still holding in ten to twenty feet of water, with the Bass waiting for the water clarity to stabilize before pushing them into the backs of the coves for the next four months. The lake was treated with Copper Sulfate (Bluestoning) on Friday which should clear up the water completely in the coming days. Ultimately it will be a few days of high pressure that will drive the remaining particles to the bottom.

Striped Bass:

Still  basically a no show as of yet, other than the random blow up or cut sardine bite.
