Castaic Lake Report 07-05-2026
Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:
The lake is in good shape following the algae treatment last Friday. The water is clearing up, especially in the Fish Arm of the lake. High pressure and heat going into the holiday weekend should further the process. The better bites are happening deeper, likely due to the clearer water found along the bottom in the twenty to thirty foot range. That being said, there are some larger fish starting to cruise the shoreline in search of an easy meal in the morning. Dropshot and Carolina rigs are producing numbers and size, as well as what looks like the beginning of a reaction bait bite. Two and three inch paddletail swimbaits on a 1/4 oz. ballhead jig got the attention of some solid fish for my clients. Dropshot and Carolina rigs are still producing numbers and size, with the hot baits the tried and true Bait Merchant designed C3 Baits Prototype Worm in the Purple Haze color pattern and wacky rigged C3 Baits Slim Pros in the Cinnamon color.
Striped Bass:
Slowly evolving into what should be a great Summer and Fall bite. Minimal surface action due to the algae which should be all but gone in the coming days.
