Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:
Anglers putting in time during the small windows of opportunity had a decent bite on good sized fish in the 15 to 25 foot range, mostly on finesse plastics with a smattering of reaction baits as well. Targeting secondary points and cliff walls with wacky rigged C3 Baits Slim Pros on the dropshot was the most consistent technique. C3 Baits Shimmys in the Neptune Shad pattern continue to dominate the light-line Carolina rig. A few fish are being caught on small crankbaits and hard jerkbaits in the same areas.
Striped Bass:
Not much change since last week as the schools remain spread out in deep water from 25 to 70 feet. Some fish are being caught on reaction baits like umbrella rigs and Keitech Fat Swing Impacts, but there hasn’t been much angler interest at this point. Vertically jigging spoons and bouncing tailspinners in deep water is connecting with some quality fish into the double digit weight class. Trolling is improving daily as the water cools and the fish start to school up again. The Winter is shaping up to be another great season. Hopefully Trout plants will happen sooner than later.
