Castaic Lake Report 10-16-2022

Largemouth Bass:

A good week all around with daytime temps in the low to mid 80’s and reduced recreational boat traffic. The Bass continue their Fall transition from the backs of coves to secondary and main lake points and bluffs. The Shad and Silverside minnows have returned to the backs of some coves bringing with it good action on live bait as well as the return of the Tiny Fluke / water bubble rig. The bite is also good on dropshot and Carolina rigs, along with 4″ Yamamoto Hula Grubs and Fat Ika’s. The West side of the Ski Arm is starting to come alive in the twenty foot zone along with the outer rocky areas of the Fish Arm. The water level has stabilized about ten feet below the debris line, where it is likely to stay until Winter.

Striped Bass:

No real change. A few main lake boils popping up here and there as schools of Stripers in the two to six pound range chase the bigger Shad. There has also been some boils up by the buoy line at the end of the Ski Arm. Lucky Craft Sammy’s and Gunfish in the 95 and 100 sizes are getting the better bites. Any of the bone or baitfish colors will work. This bite along with trolling flies and vertical jigging should be good to excellent in the coming weeks as the water cools into the upper 60’s.

Water conditions:

Surface temp 73 degrees

Water clarity 5′ to 12′ in most areas
