Castaic Lake Report 09-30-2023

Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:

An uptick in the average size of Bass this week as the Fall transition continues. Shad and Silverside minnows are back in the coves in extreme numbers and there appears to have been another baitfish spawn as the thousands if not millions of 1/2″ minnows will attest. Some bigger Largemouth are hitting topwater lures early and are also biting during the day on dropshot rigs and wacky worms in the five to ten foot zone. Main-lake points, secondary cuts and the mouths of the major coves are all producing throughout the lake.

Striped Bass:

Striper boils continue with two to four pound schoolies hitting topwater lures in the mornings and afternoons around the the mouths of the major coves. Both ends of the lake are good places to start. Lucky Craft Sammy’s in any of the Shad colored patterns are getting smashed as are live baitfish during the early afternoon while waiting for the schools to surface. Pearl white Zoom Flukes are also a good choice either weightless or on a small ball head jig hook.
