Largemouth & Smallmouth Bass:
Solid Bass fishing for both species on tap, especially early and late in the day. Surface poppers, walking baits and small swimbaits are all getting bit on a regular basis. Main lake points in the fish arm, the shady bluffs in Elizabeth Canyon, and the entrance to Dry Gulch are good areas to try. There are also Bass busting offshore, chasing small Shad and Silverside minnows in the main basins. Once the sun gets on the water, finesse plastics are pretty much the best option with the dropshot getting the nod. Small 2.8 size Keitech swimbaits on the dropshot rig are also getting some nicer fish, especially Smallmouth.
Striped Bass:
Quality sized Stripers have been boiling on Shad and Silversides throughout the day. They are only popping up for about 30 seconds making luck a prime resource. Producer flies, KastMasters and small swimbaits are putting fish to 7 pounds on the deck trolling at 15′ to 30′ when the fish aren’t busting the surface. The Stripers are pretty much spread out all over the main lake from the forebay buoy line all the way around to Old S.S. cove in the fish arm. Look for birds and boats in the middle of the lake and you’ll find the schools.
Castaic Afterbay:
Finesse plastics and light line is the recipe for success here. Deep weed edges and drop-offs remain the best areas and the C3 Baits Shimmy is as good as any bait you can rig up. Smaller 3/8 oz. green pumpkin colored jigs and HuddleBugs continue to provide quality bites as well. Bluegill are munching meal worms and red worms around the weed beds making this a great place to take young anglers.
