Castaic Lake Report 08-28-2022
Largemouth Bass:
The use of live Shad for bait continues to deliver excellent days of Bass fishing for both numbers and size. Bass are averaging one to three pounds, with some in the four to five pound range. Anglers can expect around fifteen fish in the typical five hour half day. Otherwise the bite on anything else has slowed down as the majority of fish are roaming the coves looking for Shad schools. Dropshot and Carolina rigs will get a few bites with small finesse plastics on the business end. Focus your attention on the coves where you see fish feeding, the East side of the Ski Arm and the East side of the Fish Arm are good places to start. Look for shorelines that have the wind blowing into them as that is where the bulk of the bait fish and Bass are.
Striped Bass:
The bigger fish remain in deep water foraging on the larger Shad but there is definitly more and more heading to shallower water. Surface boils of these bigger fish have started popping up but it takes a lot of looking around to be in the right place at the right time. We have been catching a few in the three to seven pound range while Bass fishing with the live bait but are not targeting them as of yet while we focus our attention on the awesome Bass fishing.
Water conditions:
Surface temp 78 – 81 degrees
Water clarity 5′ to 15′ in most areas
Minor algae bloom
