Largemouth & Smallmouth Bass:

Bass fishing continues to be good in the ten to fifteen foot zone on a variety of baits. Main lake and secondary points with deep water access have been most productive. Carolina rigged straight tail worms, dropshot curl tail worms and Ned rigs will all get bites along with 5″ green pumpkin or watermelon Senkos and smaller jerkbaits like the Luckycraft Pointer 78. Good color choices for the worms are purple smoke, oxblood red and any of the Aaron’s Magic hues. The Shad are moving up in some areas and we’ve seen large schools as shallow as ten to fifteen feet.

Striped Bass:

Not much of a report this week. I’ve spent some personal time this week looking for the schools without much luck. The fish are preparing to spawn which might make sense as to why they are harder to locate. They spawn on the surface in wind current and I’ve seen big clouds of milt on the surface in the forebay section of the lake. Look for this bite to inprove dramatically in the coming weeks if not days.

Castaic Afterbay:

The place to be as of late. Good numbers of Bass are on tap for anglers sticking with the tried and true C3 Baits/Carolina Rig presentation. Neptune Shad and Oxblood/Red Flake color patterns continue to put quality fish to five pounds in the net. The North end of the lake and the upper East and West side are good places to focus. Keep your baits low and slow, drifting them along the bottom and you will get bites.
