Largemouth Bass:

Overcast and warm temps on Monday produced one of the best trips of the year for my clients visiting from South Dakota. 5″ Senkos produced both quality and quantity fished up tight to the bluffs and rocky points. For the rest of the week post-front bluebird conditions and variable wind directions seemed to scatter the fish making them hard to pattern. The dropshot seemed to be the better choice and the best bites came on the 2.8 Keitech fat Swing Impact swimbait at the business end, dragged on red clay points in ten to twenty feet of water.

Striped Bass:

Swimbait fish are showing after another mid-week Trout plant with fish from five to ten pounds hitting for determined anglers. 8″ Huddleston Trout and bigger Glide baits like the Deps Slide Swimmer 250 are getting the bigger bites. Smaller Stripers are still hitting trolled Alabama rigs and Yak Flies on lead core line with a few schoolies mixed in.

Castaic Afterbay:

No report. The lake was closed most of the week due to budget cutbacks and other red tape. Probably done for the season at this point.

Castaic Lake Conditions:

Water Temp Surface:

65°

Water Clarity:

5′ to 10′ visibility. Light algae bloom in the Ski Arm

Water Level:

Down approximately 140′
