Castaic Lake Report 08-07-2022

Largemouth Bass:

Bass fishing is good to great depending on the day and the fishing pressure. The lake level continues to slowly rise, flooding fresh grass and keeping the fish shallow for the most part. Topwater fishing remains strong in the morning. Target shade lines along gravel flats and red clay points with small walking baits or Zoom Tiny Flukes as the baitfish are mostly small. During the day, 5″ wacky-rigged Senkos, Dropshot and Carolina rigged C3 Baits Shimmys and Roboworms fished on windswept main-lake points continue to get some of the bigger bites. Shad are showing in huge numbers but most are still on the small side.

Striped Bass:

The bigger fish remain in deeper water where the larger Shad and Bluegill can be found. They can be tough to find and even tougher to get to bite. Trolling has yet to be effective as the fish have not been out in the main lake. Schoolie sized Stripers continue to bite cut sardines up by the forebay buoy line with some bigger fish mixed in. Surface boils on the smaller fish can be found on the main lake in both arms.

Water conditions:

Surface temp 79 – 82 degrees

Water clarity 5′ to 15′ in most areas

Minor algae bloom
