Castaic Lake Report 07-03-2022

Largemouth Bass:

Bass are biting on most any plastic bait presentations. 5″ wacky-rigged Senkos, Carolina rigged C3 Baits Shimmys, 4-1/2″ Roboworms and Ned rigs are all getting bit by fish averaging one to two pounds with some in the four to six pound range. The shaded bluff walls and main lake points in the Ski Arm is where we start, then we’re switching over to the Fish Arm when the wind kicks up around noon. Flukes and buzzbaits are getting some topwater grabs early.

Striped Bass:

We are seeing surface boils more often, throughout the day. They are mostly smaller fish, but there are some bigger ones mixed in as well as some big Largemouth Bass. Lucky Craft Gunfish and Sammy’s are getting the bigger fish underneath the schoolies, while small 2″ swimbaits, Kastmasters and poppers are matching the baitfish being chased by the smaller Stripers. Adding a #2 or #4 white feathered treble hook to the surface baits will do double duty as the bigger bait appeals to the larger fish and the feathered treble is matching the size of the smaller Shad being chased by the schoolies.

Water conditions:

Surface temp 76 – 80 degrees

Water clarity 5′ to 10′ in most areas

Major algae bloom at the end of the Fish Arm
