Castaic Lake Report 06-26-2022

Largemouth Bass:

A much improved Bass bite for both numbers and size. The decent topwater bite continues on white buzzbaits, Flukes and walking baits at first light and again in the late morning when the wind starts to blow. Wacky rigged Senkos in Natural Shad or Green Pumpkin hues fished on bluff walls will get bites before the sun gets high, after that, Carolina rigged C3 Baits Shimmys and 4-1/2″ curl-tailed Roboworms in the purple smoke color are getting hammered by mostly one to three pound fish with a few larger fish in the mix. We are mostly targeting main lake points and rocky banks with wind blowing into them.

Striped Bass:

There is a decent bait bite in ten to fifty feet of water for those anchoring up with cut Sardines, with most fish ranging in size from one to seven pounds. Trolling has improved with Yak flies or umbrella rigs as some fish have begun chasing Shad in open water. There have been a few surface boils, with mostly smaller fish, but there are some bigger ones mixed in as well as some jumbo Largemouth. Lucky Craft Gunfish and Sammy’s will get the bigger bites.

Castaic Lagoon:

No report as fishing has dwindled here as the weeds grow taller and the summer rolls on.

Water conditions – Upper Lake:

Surface temp 73 degrees

Water clarity to 10′ in most areas
