Largemouth & Smallmouth Bass:

High winds to 30 mph closed the lake again this week for a few days. Bass fishing remains pretty solid despite high boat traffic and angling pressure. 5″ Senko’s in Green Pumpkin and Watermelon continue to put fish in the boat. The C3 Baits Shimmys in Neptune Shad and Watermelon Candy fished on a light Carolina Rig have been catching nice fish when they back off the bank and go deeper. Some quality Smallmouth are showing up in the late afternoon’s here as well. 4″ and 5″ Senko’s and ned rigs are getting the bigger models to bite.

Striped Bass:

We are starting to see mainly smaller fish showing up as the Shad have continued their migration shallow bringing the Stripers with them. Trolling with the fly-coring/Producer Fly technique is getting a few fish early. Big KastMasters and 3″ swimbaits have also been effective on the troll. Look for this bite to improve as we approach the new moon next week.

Castaic Afterbay:

A Carolina rig paired with a C3 Baits Shimmy in Neptune Shad is a red-hot fish catcher here. Senko’s will also get some action. There are lots of fish being caught as well as some big fish for those using a stealthy approach and light line. Bluegill have shown up and are using the same spawning areas as the Bass. Shoreline spots are at a premium so best to get there early to stake out a good spot.
