Castaic Lake Report 11-30-2025
Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:
The bulk of the fish have begun their seasonal movement to the deeper water structure in the main lake. They utilize the same points, walls, secondary points and rocky stretches as they do when they migrate into the coves in the spring. Right now the dropshot rig is probably the best way to intercept them. Position your boat in twenty feet of water and make long parallel casts down the shoreline to keep your rig in the strike zone as long as possible. Try a little shallower and deeper from the same position. The best baits right now are the C3 Baits Jobu in the Red Bug and Watermelon hues and the Bait Merchant Prototype 1 Worm in the Purple Haze and Oxblood colors. There is a bit of a crankbait bite along with jigging spoon action on Smallmouth in deeper water.
Striped Bass:
Jigging spoons in deeper water is still productive once you locate the schools. Look in the deeper cove mouths and along main-lake shorelines for the scattered schools. Trolling is getting better with most strikes being had in the thirty to forty foot zone. Most of the bait schools you find on your sonar unit will be at the same depth around most of the lake. This will tell you how deep to troll. Alabama rigs with three inch shad pattern swimbaits on a seven foot medium/heavy rod and a full spool of lead core line is the most precise way to target the Stripers right now. Hopefully the bait fishing at the upper buoy line will take off as soon as the water temp bottoms out.
Rainbow Trout:
As of this weekend most of the fish have either been caught or have made their way out into the lake. Not much going on until the next stocking takes place, hopefully this week or next.
