Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:
Another steady week for Bass fishing for both numbers and size. There is a slow and steady migration of fish following the huge schools of Threadfin Shad into the major coves. Topwater fishing with a Riser Bait or Spro Phat Fly behind a water-filled bobber will catch lots of fish. The bite doesn’t really come on until the wind starts blowing from the South or SW, usually between 9 and 10. Any of the bigger coves that have wind blowing into them are good places to search. Look for individual or small groups of fish busting on the surface, even out in deep water.
Striped Bass:
Surface boils have diminished a bit but are still happening, mostly in the middle of the Ski Arm and the buoy line at the end of the Ski Arm. There has also been an increase in some of the schools making their way into some of the bigger coves. Lucky Craft Sammy 100’s, Espetit 95’s and 007 size Riser Baits continue to be the go-to lure choices of most anglers targeting the boils. Trolling has started to pick up as the schools are about fifteen feet deep and are easier to target when they’re not pushing bait to the surface. The area around Kong Island is a good place to start. There have been a few bigger fish in the seven to ten pound range caught recently.
