Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:
Good Bass fishing continued this week without much change. One to two pound fish are biting on dropshot rigs, small paddletail swimbaits and wacky rigged Senkos at a pretty fair clip. The lake is as full as it gets and is starting to stabilize as the fish adjust to their new surroundings. Steep rock banks, walls, main lake and secondary points, anywhere between five to twenty five feet deep are producing numbers of fish with the occasional bigger model in the three pound range. That being said, there has been a few LARGE Bass starting to show. There is also a slowly developing topwater bite early and late in the day as the bigger female Bass are starting to feed.
Striped Bass:
The Stripers are done spawning and a few are starting to show in the entrances to the bigger coves. Bait Merchant Riser Baits 007’s have the unique ability to call these fish up to the surface and like last year, will be a major player as the topwater season gets underway. The bigger schools are following the Shad into the coves in the twenty to thirty foot depth zone. The water at this depth is a little bit cooler and is more suitable to what these saltwater transplants prefer, especially when they’re traveling long distances. 3″ swimbaits, spoons and Alabama Rigs will get bit if you find the right school. The trolling bite is starting to take shape as the schools become more concentrated and predictable.
