Castaic Lake Report 09-13-2026

Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:

Bass continue to feed heavily on the abundant Shad and Silverside Minnows in the shallower areas of the main lake and towards the backs of some coves. Almost all of the action is surface oriented with Lucky Craft Gunfish 115’s and Espetit 70’s and 95’s doing the bulk of the work for most anglers. There has been quite a large number of all three Bass species in the shallow grass where the C3 Baits Flukensteins are getting bit with regularity, especially when the wind is blowing, usually around 10 a.m. Other techniques have been minimally productive as the lake produces everything the fish are looking for this time of year, easy to get baitfish. The live Shad fishing is as good as it gets, with 30-50 fish half-days the norm.

Striped Bass

Surface boils are few and far between, probably due to the schools of Stripers chasing huge schools of baitfish into the shallows. Blind casting surface lures in the shallower water is producing some bigger fish even during the middle of the day. Espetit 95’s and Lucky Craft Gunfish 115’s are connecting with Stripers that are averaging four to seven pounds. The Stripers and Largemouth are working the same areas, feeding on the abundant baitfish schools.
