Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:
Good Bass fishing continues its Summer pattern. The top techniques remain the same, Ghost pattern C3 Flukensteins, small Lucky Craft Pointer jerkbaits and live Shad are all putting fish in the net. Smallmouth remain very active. Go deeper up to 30′ for the bigger Largemouth with a dropshot rig and a C3 baits Shimmy in Neptune Shad. Some topwater action in the early morning with flukes and small poppers.
Striped Bass:
Surface “boils” were reduced to a simmer this week with most of the schools showing in the main-lake areas. They are only coming up for ten to twenty seconds most of the time, leaving little time to chase them down. The best strategy is a tough one to do – stay in a good area until they pop up within casting distance of the boat. Good topwater baits remain the Lucky Craft Sammy 100 in Ghost Shad or Aurora Black, Lucky Craft Gunfish 100’s in the same patterns, and pearl white Zoom Flukes or Ghost C3 Flukensteins.
Bluegill:
Bluegills continue to provide fast action in the shallow ends of coves like Utopia and Old SS around submerged brushpiles and overhanging trees. A bobber and a red worm will provide great fun for the kids. Keep the hooks and worms on the small size.
