Castaic Lake Report 12-21-2025

Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:
Bass fishing remains consistent as stable weather, water temp and water levels have kept the Bass relatively shallow for this time of year. The algae remains a factor but only for cleaning your boat afterward. The medium to heavy algae is keeping the water warm and the baitfish relatively shallow. The dropshot rig with a C3 Baits Jobu or the Bait Merchant 7″ Prototype Worm in the Purple Haze or Red Bug pattern continue to produce in the ten to thirty foot zone around rocky stretches and points in the main lake, especially in the Ski Arm. Still a few fish being caught on slow moving crankbaits but it’s a hot and cold technique for now as most fish aren’t in the chasing mood. Heavy rains this coming week should change conditions dramatically as we enter the new year.

Striped Bass:
Most of the fish are being caught on jigging spoons in the forty to seventy foot zone along main-lake shorelines. Trolling is producing a few fish for the persistent anglers utilizing Alabama rigs with small Shad pattern swimbaits. Trolling flies are getting some grabs as well. The cut bait bite has yet to materialize as the water temps are still holding around 61 degrees.

Rainbow Trout:

Pretty slow as everyone is waiting another plant
