Castaic Lake Report 12-07-2025
Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:
The Winter pattern is slow to materialize as stable warmer weather has been the norm. Bass are scattered anywhere from two to forty feet allowing anglers to use more of their favorite techniques. The dropshot rig with the C3 Baits Jobu in Red Bug and Oxblood along with the Bait Merchant 7″ Prototype Worm in the Purple Haze pattern have been the mainstays, fished on main-lake and secondary points. There is also a jig bite up shallow along the steeper shorelines near bushes and boulders. The crankbait bite seems to come and go as the fish are not always willing to chase them down.
Striped Bass:
Jigging spoons in the deeper cove mouths and along main-lake shorelines is paying off once you locate the schools. Trolling is producing a few fish in the thirty to forty foot zone for the dilligent anglers. Alabama rigs with Shad pattern swimbaits and stripping flies are the best bet right now. Not much of a cut bait bite yet as the water temps are still holding around 61 degrees.
Rainbow Trout:
Still waiting for another plant. Most of the fish from the first plant have either been caught or have made their way out into the lake. The bigger Trout are being caught by Bass fisherman on dropshot worms and crankbaits.
