Castaic Lake Report 11-09-2025
Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:
The good topwater bite that we’ve all been having fun with since June has all but dried up as the baitfish are moving out of the backs of the coves, headed for deeper water. Falling water levels aren’t helping and rain this coming week will speed up the overall fish movement to the deeper water structure in the main lake as winter approaches. That being said, there are still a few windows of good topwater fishing to be had in the last hour or so of the afternoon in coves like Old SS and Dry Gulch. There is also a steady jigging spoon bite in thirty to forty feet of water in the front half of the same coves towards the main lake.
Striped Bass:
The best action continues to be on jigging spoons in deeper water. Trolling and bait fishing is slow for now but should get better once the schools start following the bait schools in the main lake.
Rainbow Trout:
The first stocking of the year went in this past week and it was a doozy. 5000 pounds of trout in the two to five pound class were stocked at the west ramp on Tuesday when the lake was closed. By Wednesday morning there were dozens of anglers lining the shore and catching was excellent. As of the weekend most of the fish have either been caught or have made their way out into the lake.
