Largemouth & Smallmouth Bass:

Bass fishing was good during the week until the “Lake” fire closed the lake for four days and counting. Big schools of Bass continue to chase Shad early and late in the day. Zoom Flukes and walking baits like the Luckycraft Sammy or IMA Skimmer are as good as any in tempting Largemouth averaging two to five pounds. We are still fishing live Shad every day and the bite continues to be excellent as well as exciting.

Striped Bass:

The bite slowed a bit this week as calm and hot conditions drove the fish down again. There were boils to be had for the patient few around Center Point and up to Kong Island. The trolling bite was steady in these areas as well, especially in the late afternoon in choppy seas. Green over white Producer flies continue to put Stripers from five to seven pounds in the net. Most of the trolling action remains in 20 – 30 feet of water.

Castaic Afterbay:

The deep edge of the grass beds and swim beach are holding some quality fish in the mornings and again when the wind is blowing. Any of the common C3 Baits will get hammered on a Carolina Rig with 6lb line. Bluegill can be caught on mini jigs and meal worms in the deeper weeds.
