Castaic Lake Report 06-14-2026

Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:

The lake is full capacity and the bulk of the fish are still spread out requiring anglers to move spots often to find biters. Most of the action is still happening deeper, in the fifteen to thirty foot range. While the dropshot rigs and light line Carolina rigs continue to dominate most of the action, reaction baits like hard and soft jerkbaits and crankbaits are starting to produce as well. There has been a few fish caught on topwater lures but it hasn’t really taken off yet as the majority of the bigger Shad are holding in ten feet of water. Bait Merchant designed C3 Baits like the Prototype Worm and most of the C3 Baits lineup in the Neptune Shad, Purple Haze and Cinnamon color patterns are once again putting a lot of fish in the net. A wacky rigged C3 Baits Slim Pro in the Cinnamon color hue on a dropshot rig was my go to bait of choice this week, accounting for most of our bigger fish. The water is green with algae with the Ski Arm being heavier than the Fish Arm. There are areas of cleaner water, you just have to look for them.

Striped Bass:

Still hit and miss although we caught our first topwater Stripers of the year last week in the afternoon in the East end of the Fish Arm. Lucky Craft Gunfish and Espetit 95’s are pretty much the only baits I’ll use this season as they cast far and hook fish well. There are still some solid fish being caught on cut sardines for those willing to put in the time.
