Castaic Lake Report 06-07-2026

Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:

As the lake nears its full capacity, things are definitly changing as the bulk of the Largemouth are finishing their post-spawn doldrums and starting to group up for the Summer feeding frenzy. The fish are still spread out a bit so the best bet is to move spots often until you get bites. Most of the better bites are happening a little deeper, in the fifteen to twenty five foot range. While the standard wacky rigs, dropshot rigs and light line Carolina rigs continue to catch the bulk of the fish, reaction baits like hard and soft jerkbaits and underspins are getting some attention as well. The Bait Merchant designed C3 Baits and most of the standard C3 Baits lineup in the Neptune Shad, Purple Haze and Cinnamon color patterns are once again the standard offerings. Shad are in spawning mode which should bring a topwater bite anytime as the wolfpacks of Bass push the baitfish to the backs of the coves. The water is green with algae with the Ski Arm being heavier than the Fish Arm.

Striped Bass:

We caught our first topwater Stripers of the year mid-week in the afternoon after seeing a few splashes in the East end of the Fish Arm across the lake from Utopia. Lucky Craft Gunfish and Espetit 95’s are pretty much the only baits I’ll use this season as they cast far and hook fish well. There are some solid fish being caught on cut sardines for those willing to put in the time.

Surface Temp: 70 am – 76 pm  

Water Clarity: 5′ to 15′ – Light to medium algae. The East end of the Fish Arm seems to be the cleaner area for now.
