Castaic Lake Report 05-31-2026

Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:

The lake is almost full! The rising water has spread the fish out a bit making some of tthe usual spots and areas not as productive as they were a few weeks ago. Most of the better bites are a little deeper, in the fifteen to twenty five foot range, where the standard dropshot rigs and light line Carolina rigs have been the mainstay techniques. Wacky rigged 5″ Daiwa Neko Fat worms in the natural shad color color put some nice fish in my boat as well. Most of the Bait Merchant designed C3 Baits in the Neptune Shad color and the C3 Baits Ice Pick and Jobu in the same color are once again the standard offerings. Shad are in spawning mode which should ignite a topwater bite in the coming week or two. The water is green with algae and super clear in others, depending on which way the wind blows. Most of the coves on the South side of the Fish Arm are clean. The best bet right now is to fish different spots and move often until you get bit.

Striped Bass:

Stripers are still not boiling on baitfish, but this should change in the coming days and weeks once the lake level stabilizes and predator and prey settle into their Summer patterns.
