Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:

Good Bass fishing marches on with one to two pound fish biting the same dropshot rigs, 2″ to 3″swimbaits and wacky rigged Senkos as in previous weeks. The Bait Merchant “Caligator” in the Neptune Shad or SnotRocket colors, nose hooked on a dropshot rig is my main bait at the moment. Most of the bites have been coming on steeper rock banks, walls and secondary points in five to thirty feet of water just about anywhere on the lake. The lake is pretty much done filling and the post-season topwater bite should start any day as the Shad are poised to spawn in all of the flooded grass. The Smallmouth are more active than the Largemouth and are showing up in good numbers.

Striped Bass:

The Stripers are spawning which means that “boiling” surface action is just around the corner. This usually corresponds with the Shad spawn as all of the baitfish remain shallow for the next few months. With the lake full and with excellent water clarity, this should be an epic season for topwater Stripers and Bass.
