Castaic Lake Report 05-03-2026

Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:

Wednesday was the only open day during the week, making reports and conditions hard to come by. The lake was closed Thursday, Friday and Saturday for the annual Kids Day fishing event. A few opportunities for reaction style fishing presented themselves during the windy part of the day this past Wednesday. Hard jerkbaits like Lucky Craft Staysee 90’s in the classic Ghost Minnow and Aurora Black patterns along with spinnerbaits fished in the 10′ depth range accounted for Bass up to three pounds. Dropshot and Carolina rigs continue to dominate the finesse bite along with wacky rigged 5″ stickbaits flylined around the first dropoffs nearest the shoreline.

Striped Bass:

No report with the short week. The good news is the Shad schools are getting shallower and the Stripers shouldn’t be far behind.

Rainbow Trout:

Stocking is done for the season except for the Trout that were stocked for the Kids Day. How many of them lived long enough to be released is anyone’s guess.
