Castaic Lake Report 04-26-2026

Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:

Once again, high winds mid-week left anglers searching for calmer areas around the lake. Dropshot and Carolina rigged C3 Baits Shimmy’s in the Neptune Shad and Watermelon Candy patterns were all I used this week. Wacky rigged 5″ Daiwa Neko Fat worms and Bait Merchant designed C3 Baits Calligators and Prototype 1 Worms are also getting bites. Not much action on any moving or reaction style baits except for a few opportunities with a MegaBass Vision 110 worked along the West walls of the ski arm when the conditions are right, basically warm and windy afternoons (thanks Blair). Most of the bigger fish are coming in twenty to thirty feet of water, as the fluctuating water levels had them backed off a bit.

Striped Bass:

Still a guessing game. The schools still remain spread out and hard to target, however the Shad are getting shallower and this should bring the Stripers into range of most techniques in the not so distant future.

Rainbow Trout:

Stocking is done for the season. A few holdovers are being caught by Bass fisherman on finesse and wacky worms, mostly in the upper end of the Ski Arm.
