Castaic Lake Report 04-05-2026

Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:

The great Bass fishing continues with the bulk of the Largemouth either spawning or pre-spawn. Rain early in the week lead up to two good days of weather mid-week before the high winds set in on Friday. Dropshot or Carolina rigged straight tail worms like the C3 Baits Shimmy’s and Bait Merchant designed C3 Baits Calligators and Prototype 1 Worms continue to dominate the bait selection. Wacky rigged 5″ Daiwa Neko Fat worms are also putting big numbers of fish in the boat. The bigger fish being caught tend to be a little deeper in the twenty to thirty foot zone, while just about any area with steep walls and bluffs or main lake and secondary points are producing fish in both arms of the lake. If you’re not getting bites, keep moving until you do.

Striped Bass:

There are some trollers working the lead core/trolling fly pattern with minimal success and cut sardine dunkers are getting a few fish but the schools remain spread out and hard to target at this time.

Rainbow Trout:

Pretty much done for the season except for a few being caught by Bass fisherman on dropshot finesse worms and wacky rigs
