Castaic Lake Report 03-29-2026

Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:

Bass fishing continues to be pretty much wide open as most of the Bass are either spawning or pre-spawn. Just about any  finesse plastics bait in any of the popular colors will put fish in the boat at this time. Dropshot, Texas rigs or light-line Carolina rigs remain the best techniques for mostly one to two pound Smallmouth and Largemouth. There are some bigger fish being caught although they tend to be a little deeper in the twenty to thirty foot zone, most likely waiting for this coming week’s full moon to move shallow. Just about any area with steep walls and bluffs or main lake and secondary points and rocky transition areas are producing fish. If you’re not getting bit right away, keep moving until you find the biters. Well proven baits like the C3 Baits Shimmy’s and Bait Merchant designed C3 Baits Calligators and Prototype 1 Worms are hard to beat. A wacky rigged 5″ stick worm is a great alternative as well.

Striped Bass:

No change as the bulk of the fish are scattered around the lake at different depths. There are some trollers and cut sardine dunkers getting a few fish but the schools are pretty well spread out and hard to target at this time.

Rainbow Trout:

Most if not all of the Trout are bveing caught from anglers in boats utilizing their sonar skills and looking for the small schools of holdover fish. Shoreline fishing remains slow.
