Castaic Lake Report 03-22-2026
Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:
The great Bass fishing continues with the hot bite on finesse plastics leading the charge. Dropshot or light-line Carolina rigs remain the go-to techniques for the mostly cookie cutter sized Smallmouth along with some bigger Largemouth . The Ski Arm and Fish Arm are both producing action in the ten to twenty five foot zone on 45 degree walls and bluffs, main lake and secondary points, and rocky transition areas near deep water. The standard Castaic baits like the C3 Baits Shimmy’s in Neptune Shad on a Carolina rig and the Bait Merchant/C3 Baits Calligator and Prototype Worm in the Purple Haze color on the dropshot rig are getting the most bites. Hard baits like crankbaits, jerkbaits and Megabass Karashi twitch baits are getting some looks but very few grabs as the bulk of the fish aren’t willing to chase them down yet.
Striped Bass:
The Striper bite has yet to materialize in any way as the bulk of the fish are scattered around the lake at different depths. Once the Shad go shallow to spawn the bite should become more predictable and we’ll be able to target these great fish for the rest of the year. Better days ahead!
Rainbow Trout:
No Change. A few Trout were caught from anglers in boats fishing for Bass with dropshot and Carolina rigs. Shoreline fishing remains slow, at least until the next stocking if there is one.
