Castaic Lake Report 03-15-2026
Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:
Good to great Bass fishing on tap with finesse plastics dominating the techniques on a dropshot or light-line Carolina rig. The Ski Arm and Fish Arm were both producing mostly cookie-cutter sized Smallmouth and some bigger Largemouth. Most of the action is in the ten to twenty foot zone on main and secondary points and rocky transition areas near deep water. The most productive bait this week was the old staple C3 Baits Shimmy in Neptune Shad dragged around on a Carolina rig. The Bait Merchant Calligator and Prototype worm in the Purple Haze pattern got a lot of attention on the dropshot rig. Fluke style baits from either company are starting to become part of the arsenal as well. Hard baits are getting very few grabs as the bulk of the fish aren’t willing to chase them down yet.
Striped Bass:
There are some Stripers in the five to seven pound range being caught incidentally while Bass fishing, but targeting them remains slow for the most part. Just about all of the “Striper Guys” are going up the road to Pyramid Lake where the trolling bite is very good.
Rainbow Trout:
A few Trout were caught from anglers in boats fishing for Bass with dropshot and Carolina rigs. Shoreline fishing remains slow, at least until the next stocking.
