Castaic Lake Report 03-01-2026
Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:
The good finesse plastics bite picked up where it left off after the last stormfronts went through the area last week. Although the Ski Arm had white caps and high winds, the Fish Arm was calm and glassy most of the week. The bulk of the bites are in the ten to twenty foot zone, with a dropshot rig and a small finesse worm doing 90% of the catching. Standout choices were once again, C3 Baits Shimmy’s in Neptune Shad and the Bait Merchant Calligator and Prototype worm in the same pattern or Purple Haze variant. Main lake and secondary points along with just about any rocky stretch of shoreline with deep water nearby put good to excellent numbers of Largemouth and Smallmouth in anglers boats. A few fish over 5 pounds were caught, possibly indicating an early spawn this Spring, especially if this warm weather trend continues.
Striped Bass:
Same as last week. Not much of a report yet but there are some Stripers in the five to ten pound range being caught incidentally while Bass fishing.
Rainbow Trout:
Quite a few Trout were caught from anglers in boats fishing for Bass with dropshot and carolina rigs. Shoreline fishing remains slow, at least until the next stocking.
