Castaic Lake Fishing

Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:

The usual finesse techniques are producing bites when netting shad is not an option. Dropshots and Carolina rigs with a C3 Baits Shimmy or Ice Pick in Neptune Shad has been our go-to pattern for months now. We are fishing these baits from 10 – 25′ on main lake points and cuts. Water temps remain 78° in the morning and 82° in the afternoon. There is a decent topwater bite for those able to NOT chase the Stripers, with some better fish hitting Zoom Flukes, poppers and small walking baits.

Striped Bass:

Striper fishing rebounded strongly this week with the mornings providing big schools of 4-6 pound fish for our clients. Topwater walking baits, Zoom Flukes and just about anything with a white belly will get smashed in the surface boils. Trolling the same zones while looking for surface action has also been fantastic with Producer Flies, KastMasters and small shad swimbaits all getting hammered on our lead core rods.

Castaic Afterbay:

No Report. We are not fishing the lagoon right now as most of our time has been focused on the Striped Bass upstairs. There is lots of water activity right now so we will be back to fishing here in the late fall.
