Castaic Lake Report 10/18/26

Largemouth, Smallmouth and Striped Bass:

High winds in the 15-30 mph range kept most anglers off the water this week. The two days I did get out found fishing and conditions basically unchanged. There are still major numbers of big Shad in most of the coves, especially in the Ski Arm where NE winds blew most of the algae and floating weeds towards the main lake. The Fish Arm bore the brunt of the high winds and chopped up weed pieces from the hundreds of Coots that are feasting on the submerged weedbeds. Bass fishing was excellent on live Shad with most anglers experiencing 20 to 40 fish in a morning or afternoon session. All three Bass species are in the coves eating the plentiful baitfish. Stripers are also cruising the shoreline and blowing up on the Shad that are taking refuge in the expansive weedbeds. Most of the weeds are up to the surface making it difficult to get a lure with treble hooks to not get weeded out upon landing in the chaos. A better bet is a C3 Baits Flukenstein, Texas rigged with an EWG hook.
